UNESCO Chair on Education for Social Justice of the Autonomous University of Madrid celebrates its second anniversary today
It has been two years since Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) , and Rafael Garesse, Rector of the Autonomous University of Madrid, signed an agreement for the creation of the “UNESCO Chair in Education for Social Justice of the Autonomous University of Madrid”.
The Chair was created with two essential motivations. On the one hand, to address the situation of injustice and oppression that continues to be experienced throughout the world. And, on the other, by the conviction that education can and must contribute to transforming this situation. Currently, these reasons have become stronger. The health and social crisis leaves us a dejected society where inequality and injustice soar. But, without a doubt, we are sure that only by working together we can build a fairer and more inclusive world.
Thus, on our second anniversary, we want to thank the work of the more than 90 Chair memebers who fight for social transformation from an education for Social Justice perspective. Also, to all these professionals who strive to make this world and increasingly fair place.
