UNDP publishes report on "COVID-19 and Human Development: Assessing the Crisis, Envisioning the Recovery"

The health crisis has led to a crisis in human development, with UNDP (United Nations Development Program) registering levels of deprivation in some areas equivalent to those recorded in the 1980s. While some are evident to all, such as health, education and work, there are other indirect effects that are more difficult to monitor, such as the increase in rates of domestic violence.

As reported in the document, inequalities and respective pre-existing negative effects have added new challenges. This report is characterized by a capabilities approach that documents the severity of the human development crisis and its main objective is to lay the foundations for a robust political response. The evaluation framework of the report is based on simulations with the Human Development Index (HDI).
